What can we tell you about Cwmheldeg?

Cwmheldeg Cottage sits within the village of Trefin, a small coastal village in North Pembrokeshire between Fishguard and St Davids and within the Pembrokeshire National Park. Trefin has a small shingly beach (Aberfelin) and easy access to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

Cwmheldeg Cottage is a cozy and comfortably furnished detached property that has been recently refurbished and decorated. It has three bedrooms, one with a small ensuite, and a bathroom upstairs. Downstairs is a kitchen / diner, living room and cloakroom toilet. Upstairs the Cottage is carpeted (except in the bathroom and ensuite) and downstairs the floor is tiled with a rug in the Living Room. Outside there is a stone wall enclosed paved area ideal for al fresco meals. There is also off street parking for one car.

  • Bedroom 1: Standard sized double bed with bedside table and chest of drawers. There is a small ensuite with shower, basin and toilet. This bedroom has an external stable door leading to an external staircase.

  • Bedroom 2: Two single beds which can be arranged as two singles or one Superking sized bed. Bedside tables and chest of drawers. This room has a large built in wardrobe with sliding doors and plenty of hanging space.

  • Bedroom 3: Standard sized double bed with bedside table and chest of drawers.

  • Bathroom: The panelled bathroom basin, toilet, heated towel rail and a small bath with shower over and glass shower panel.

  • Kitchen: In addition to sink, hob, grill/oven and extractor the kitchen has a microwave, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle and nespresso coffee machine. There is a built in dishwasher and a washing machine.

  • Dining Area: The dining area of the kitchen has an extendable table and seats six. There are two large built in cupboards, one with hanging space for coats and the other (with the oil fired combi boiler in the bottom) with shelves for shoes and walking boots.

  • Cloakroom: With toilet, basin, large mirror and a row of hooks for coats.

  • Living Room: The living room has two sofas (one two-man and one three-man) with a matching upholstered foot stool. There are several side tables with lamps. The TV has a BT Box connecting to Freeview and can connect to BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Amazon Prime through the wi-fi router. There is a small wood burner.

  • Outside: The stone wall enclosed paved area has a picnic table with built in benches (cushions for the benches are hanging in the Cloakroom) and outdoor power sockets. This sheltered area is a suntrap all day and the walls are hung with outdoor lights for an atmospheric setting after sunset. There are two outdoor taps with the one beside the car parking space best for rinsing wetsuits and beach gear.

One of the nicest features of Cwmheldeg Cottage is the ability to walk out of the front door and be on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path within a few minutes. Being able to get to the sea at Aberfelin beach makes a morning swim a possibility for the brave and a good launch for sea kayaks or paddle boards.

If all of that sounds too energetic then it is easy to find a seat amongst the ruins on the cliffs above the beach to watch the sun go down. At the back of the beach is the ruin of the Trefin Mill made famous in the poem, Melin Trefin by Crwys. Trefin has an active pub, The Ship Inn, which serves food and has the occasional live band.

A walk along the coast path in one direction brings you to Abercastle which often has boats moored up in the bay. In the other direction is Porthgain with its little harbour and art galleries. Porthgain has a pub, The Sloop, as well as a restaurant, The Shed, well known for its takeaway fish and chips.

For walkers looking for a change from the coast path there are inland walks directly from the Cottage and a short drive away there is the beautiful Gwaun Valley and the Prescelli Hills.
