Using the boiler

The cottage has a combi-boiler that heats the radiators and produces hot water when you turn on the hot tap. The boiler runs off oil from the tank at the side of the house. The boiler controls are electric and so the boiler needs to be plugged in (the plug is above the boiler on the left) and switched on.

The boiler is controlled by the combined thermostat and controller on the wall to the left of the front door.

Heating

The controller has 4 heating modes: Scheduled, Manual, Boost and O (which is off but will turn on if there is a risk of freezing). We have not set up the contoller to use the "Scheduled" heating mode and we recommend having the heating either on ("Manual") or Off depending on the weather. When on Manual you can then set a Target Temperature. During the day you might set that to 18' and in the evening maybe bump it up to 21' - whatever is comfortable. At bedtime we don't like the heating to come on so we set it to 12'. Alternatively you could turn it from Manual to Off. This is how you make these selections:

  1. Tap any icon to wake up the thermostat

  2. Once the screen turns on press the Menu/Confirm icon (see picture below)

  3. You will be presented with a screen to choose "Heating" or "Hot Water". Use the up/down buttons to select "Heating" and then tap on the round Menu icon to select.

  4. Here you’ll see the different modes: Schedule, Manual, Boost and Off. If you want the heating on then select "Manual", if you want it off select "Off" and, once chosen, tap on the round Menu icon to select.

  5. To change the temperature tap the up arrow to increase the target temperature. The heating will come on if the actual temperature is below the target temperature. Tap the down arrow to lower the target temperature.

  6. There is no need to adjust the individual thermostats on the radiators.

Hot Water

  1. Tap any icon to wake up the thermostat

  2. Once the screen turns on press the Menu/Confirm icon (see picture below)

  3. You will be presented with a screen to choose "Heating" or "Hot Water". Use the up/down buttons to select "Hot Water" and then tap on the round Menu icon to select.

  4. Again, you have the choice of On, Schedule, Boost or O. We suggest you select either "On" or "O" (which is off but will turn on if there is a risk of freezing).  Select "On" and then tap on the round Menu icon to select.

  5. We generally leave the hot water on all day. You might like to turn it off at night, we do, as it occasionally will turn on to warm the small amount of water contained in the boiler and that might disturb you at night.
